Law Allowing Retirement Gifts for CF Restored

Persons aged 70½  and older can once again make a tax-free gift to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation using funds from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA). The IRA rollover giving incentive was restored last week, as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.

The IRA charitable rollover is a tax incentive that allows individuals aged 70½ and older to donate up to $100,000 from their IRAs and Roth IRAs to public charities without having to count the distributions as taxable income.

Because the provision expired on December 31, 2007, it required Congressional action to restore it. The incentive is once again in effect, and will remain effective through the end of 2009.
