The sun had barely risen on a Friday morning in October, when 30 teams of stalwart anglers baited their hooks and set out to sea at the Southern California Chapter's Hook the Cure in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

More than 120 guests fished, golfed and enjoyed luxurious spa days at the weekend event, reeling in a whopping $450,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

What a Weekend!

Hook the Cure held something for everyone, including a pre-tournament Mexican fiesta hosted by Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs, live entertainment by Los Bambinos, golf at Vista Vallarta’s challenging Nicklaus course, and an awards gala and auction sponsored by the CF Foundation’s Outstanding Corporate Partner American Airlines® and hosted by Los Angeles radio personality Shawn Parr.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be around so many old and new friends with one mission in mind—finding a cure for CF,” said Event Co-Chair Bob Huston. “And of course, an event of this magnitude could never have succeeded without the generous support of our sponsors and longtime friends, BJ’s Restaurants and IOTEC,” said Co-Chair Jeff Jennison. “We’re already planning next year’s Hook;” he added. “It’s on our calendars for November 5-8 in 2009.”
