Puttin’ on the Ritz in Chicago

November 13, 2007

Inaugural Breath of Life Gala
Faye and Joe Manzi and daughters enjoy the gala.
Faithful Chicagoans turn out for their beloved Bears, White Sox, and Cubs, but on October 4, 2007 they appeared in rare form to support finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. At the Greater Illinois Chapter’s Inaugural Breath of Life Gala, Presented by J.E. Manzi & Associates, Inc.,150 guests graced the banquet hall of the Ritz Carlton Chicago.

The 65 Roses theme was evident in the brimming rose centerpieces from five different florists. The elegant black tie crowd sipped cocktails, dined on fine cuisine, and were enchanted by the music of the Glassworks Jazz Trio.

The auction committee assembled a dazzling array of items to bid for, including two weeks at a chalet in the French Alps, a viewing of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric and a backstage tour of the station, a week in an 11,000-square-foot villa in Puerta Vallerta, Mexico, and two backstage passes for two days at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. Overall, the evening raised $225,000 for the CF Foundation.

A number of guests were honored for their steadfast support of the CF Foundation, including Joe and Faye Manzi, and attorneys Tim Conway and John Mrowiec. In her Bid for a Cure speech, Maggie Sheehan spoke eloquently about her life with cystic fibrosis.

“It was my pleasure to sponsor this new event,” said corporate sponsor Joe Manzi. “Establishing new sources of revenue is important but having the results exceed the goals is truly rewarding.”

Corporate sponsors Tim Conway and John Mrowiec of Conway & Mrowiec Attorneys at Law noted, “We believe medical progress can make a difference, even in a single child’s lifetime. With continuing research, the day will come scientific advances arrive at a cure for CF.”

Special thanks go to corporate sponsors J.E. Manzi & Associates, Inc., Conway & Mrowiec, and Waste Management. And a round of applause goes to volunteers Amber Carey Gitter, Maggie Sheehan and Julie Isen.
