Live CF Patient Education Web Cast Draws Hundreds of Participants

On Sept. 27, more than 900 people worldwide participated in the Web cast, “Total Lung Care: Feel the Difference T.L.C. Makes,” which was hosted by the CF Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Tucson.

Staff from the CF Foundation-accredited Tucson care center--including its director, respiratory therapist and a clinical nurse specialist--presented practical guidance on the importance of total lung care in CF. The care team discussed the “hows and whys” of keeping the lungs healthy--from explaining the daily CF care regimen to commenting on the latest lung therapies. “Making lung care a priority is ‘kind of like flossing,’” said one presenter. “It is something that might seem like drudgery but will pay off big in the long-term.”

This T.L.C. Web cast is the seventh in a successful series of virtual patient education programs, coordinated and hosted by the CF Foundation, and supported through an unrestricted educational grant from Genentech, Inc. The Web cast will soon be archived and join the other Virtual Patient Education Day Web casts now available for viewing from the CF Foundation’s Web site.  These innovative programs have created a growing virtual CF community who are engaged in patient care and eager to ask questions of the CF experts.
