CF Champions Ask Congress to Designate May National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month

April 10, 2008

Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and James Inhofe (R-OK) introduced the Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Resolution in the U.S. Senate today to officially recognize May 2008 as National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month. Congressional Cystic Fibrosis Caucus Co-chairs, Congressmen Ed Markey (D-MA) and Cliff Stearns (R-FL), have introduced the resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“We are so pleased to have champions like Senators Murray and Inhofe and Representatives Markey and Stearns leading the way to spread awareness about cystic fibrosis. Through our drug development pipeline, we are achieving significant progress in our search for new treatments and a cure for this disease,” said Robert J. Beall, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“With more people aware of CF and more support for critical research, we will surely reach our goal and find a cure. We are honored to have the United States Congress recognize the hope in our fight against CF,”  added Beall.

Congress's official recognition of May as National CF Awareness Month demonstrates that members of Congress understand the challenges that people affected by the disease face and are committed to work to find a cure or control for CF.

Help pass the Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Resolution by asking your elected officials to sign-on. Contact your Senators and Representative to ask them to get involved.
